TEAM |
How did you get involved in this reunion?
|
PIGGINS |
I got contacted through Stu Sutherland, who had in turn been contacted by
Rebecca through Friends Reunited. I offered web space for a reunion site and
that was it - knobbled.
|
TEAM |
What role do you play in the team?
|
PIGGINS |
Webmaster and opinionated git. Keeping the site up to date and then
trying to get new features going takes quite a bit of the time.
|
TEAM |
What are your aims for the event and what do you hope to achieve?
|
PIGGINS |
Um. Hadn't thought that far ahead. World Peace? I guess I'd like
to catch up with a few people I've lost contact with and avoid a few I'm glad
I lost contact with.
|
TEAM |
What would people remember you for during your time at PPS?
|
PIGGINS |
Well, naturally, my intelligence and good looks, but possibly the
infantile escapades that seemed to have filled my time there.
|
TEAM |
How would you view your time at PPS?
|
PIGGINS |
It helped me develop from being an immature boy who liked nothing
better than doing stupid things to being an immature man who likes doing stupid things.
|
TEAM |
Did you have a favourite subject at school?
|
PIGGINS |
Maths, didn't have to write much.
|
TEAM |
And your least favourite subject?
|
PIGGINS |
Biology, but I think that was down to the teacher.
|
TEAM |
Did you ever do anything completely stupid at school?
|
PIGGINS |
Did I ever do anything that wasn't completely stupid?
|
TEAM |
Did you have a favourite teacher?
|
PIGGINS |
Mr Prater. I actually enjoyed art for the first time and, like a couple
of the younger teachers, he treated you like a person.
|
TEAM |
Tell us what has happened to you over the past 20+ years.
|
PIGGINS |
Did Maths & Computing at Surrey, left for IBM vowing never to go back to
academia. Left IBM to go back to academia as a Research Fellow, working in
Artificial Intelligence with lots of big companies. Did funky stuff that was a
blend of real-world and blue-sky for several years. Went to a start-up, which
was just about to make it when funding was pulled - fitting in a PhD part-time
(only nancies do it full-time). Then on to Resumix, a company that made software
that scanned CVs for job matching, then on to Documentum, then finally to where I am
now - another start-up that hasn't started-up yet but is being funded by the same
venture guys behind eBay and other e-glitterati.
|
TEAM |
Do you have a family?
|
PIGGINS |
Yup, an 11 year old daughter and an 8 year old son. I think the wife came
with the house. No can't be, wedding photos are dated '88.
|
TEAM |
Where do you live now?
|
PIGGINS |
Guildford.
|
TEAM |
Have you kept in touch with anyone from school?
|
PIGGINS |
My co-conspirator, Steve Short, and also Christina Smith.
|
TEAM |
How have you changed since leaving PPS?
|
PIGGINS |
Not an awful lot.
Essentially, I'm the same, but I can just fool more people that I'm sensible.
|
TEAM |
Apart from organising the reunion, how do spend your time?
|
PIGGINS |
Working and doing things with the family take up most of the time. I also run
the official Revillos website with Steve (www.revillos.co.uk).
|
TEAM |
Have you had your 15 minutes of fame?
|
PIGGINS |
Does being on Tomorrows World or being interviewed by John Humfreys on Radio 4's
Today programme or being in a Vapors video count?
|
TEAM |
What would you say has been your greatest achievement?
|
PIGGINS |
The sensible answer is the PhD or my children, other answers probably won't win me any friends.
|
TEAM |
Do you have any unfulfilled ambitions?
|
PIGGINS |
Dunno, I'd have to check with the Mrs.
|
TEAM |
Much can change in 20 years - how will we recognise you at the reunion next year?
|
PIGGINS |
I'll be wearing a white carnation.
|
TEAM |
And finally, knowing what you know now would you ever organise another reunion?
|
PIGGINS |
Yeah. A sad no-life like me needs some reason to feel wanted. |
